Obama,

Edwards,

Clinton

Notice something odd about the Iowa caucus coverage? Edwards pulls off second place, despite being greatly outspent by Clinton and Obama, despite being third in nearly every pre-caucus poll, and which way does the media tack?

This is a failure for Edwards, who needed to win Iowa.

Clinton and Edwards (NOT “Edwards and Clinton”) in a dead heat for second.

Edwards’s performance with labor groups and lower income voters was disappointing.

Edwards? Edwards who? (They have been trying their damnedest not to say his name.)

What should be the talking point, when it comes to Edwards? Edwards narrowly defeats Clinton, despite being outspent by Clinton at least 2:1 (sorry, I didn’t make note of the actual numbers). Grrr. Know what it is? Edwards attacks corporate greed. Guess who owns the media.

And congratulations to Barack Obama, whom I would be delighted to call my President. Yeah, I love Edwards — I think he’s the most revolutionary of the bunch, the one who cares most for the poor, the uninsured — but Obama’s saying all the right things, too. They both gave kickass speeches, although Edwards’s speech choked me up, Obama’s didn’t, and Clinton’s made me want to hit the ultrafast forward button.

As much as I would love to see a woman in the White House, please, God, not Clinton. She’s a hawk and a corporate minion. Anyway, to misquote Stephen Colbert, I don’t see race and I don’t see gender. I’m voting for the populist candidate.

I noticed the lack of Edwards coverage as well and wondered about it. I’m sort of surprised Clinton didn’t win as, based on the media, she’s already president.

As for Obama, I wonder how the muslim angle is going to play? I ran into someone yesterday who was convinced Obama used to be a radical muslim when that is not the case. However, he does have muslim roots so….?

My local news ran the ticker at the bottom of the screen for a bit last night. No mention at all about the dead heat between Edwards and Clinton, just Obama then Clinton. Not that this influences my vote since TV is my last source for news and I’ve long since selected my candidate of choice, but it reminds me of how very partisan the “free press” really is.

You are spot on, Doug. They’re saying nothing about Edwards.

Not that I care anymore. I’ll just pick any democrat over any republican. I still think the system’s broken and anyone who makes it that far is compromised, though.

Doug, on behalf of myself and my family let me wish you and yours a very wonderful New Year. Now onto the rant….What bothered me most today as I surfed the news was that Mother Jones, a quite progressive publication I have respected since the late seventies,(yes its true I am older than dirt), did the very same thing to Edwards. It made me realize just how deep the pockets of corporate greed are, much like what happened to Mother Earth News. End of rant, Peace all.

the only place i heard mr. edwards’ name mentioned last night was on air america. that makes me want to puke, you know? mostly because i suspect he’d be leading in at least a few polls if he were getting any kind of coverage.

i could vote for mr. obama. i don’t think i’d be giving him (much, if…) any money, but i could vote for him.

mrs. clinton? i’d have to vote green or something. as much as i’d love a fellow xx in the white house, i cannot stand her.

Here’s my wife’s question, for your consideration (at least until I manage to muster up a post today):

If Hillary loses the primary, how long before she divorces Bill?

Hmm. Maybe we should have a betting pool . . .

  7. KGK says:

Either way – Bill’s going to hit the curb. Or maybe not, since he’s the human element in that couple…

Obama may have gone to an Islamic school as a little kid (I think that’s the case and I’m too rushed this morning to look it up), but that shouldn’t mean much – just like going to Catholic school doesn’t make one a minion of the Pope (or maybe it’s just me who escaped). I’m still interested in his citizenship status – is he a dual national or not? I bet he could be, since it’s standard for fathers to be able to pass on their citizenship when the parents are married. Is his potential Kenyan-ness germane? No, not really.

Ms. Clinton is far, far too much the uptight girl in high school, who did the student government gig. I don’t like someone who so obviously feels she knows better than the rest of us do and feels that gives her the right to runs things for our own good.

Am glad to be overseas and away from the onslaught of campaign crap.

Oh, good points on the Edwards coverage. The media has a huge effect (see Vanity Fair’s recent article on how the media twisted things during Gore’s campaign – thanks impartial journalists for giving us eight years of faux Republicans in the White House).

Also consider: the Howard Dean “scream,” the Dukakis “mistake” regarding that question re his wife. Both examples where the media became the message. Corporate media may be even more insidious than the military-industrial complex. At least MIC is out there for all to see like Sauron’s Eye; with corporate media, Sauron’s Eye has been hidden by a happy face.
