I can’t figure out what I like more: the performers’ big hair or the $1.99 Walmart Special lighting effects in the background. Does everyone here remember what music was like in the 70s, or would you prefer to forget?
Thing is, I’m not sure what sucks so royally here. It’s a catchy tune. Maybe I just hate pop.
D.
*My wife, and it seems more than a few women before her, have criticized me for saying things like “Eminem is crap” or “OMFG Ordinary People is worthless.” Seems I should be saying, “Eminem is crap, in my opinion,” and “OMFG Ordinary People is worthless, in my opinion.” So: Good heavens, music sucked back then, in my opinion.
Forget the music…I’m one of THOSE women. Having taught Ordinary People several times and having seen the movie more than once, sorry, there is value in this story. Plus the acting was great.
*Flashback to those awkward teenage years.* I grew up on music like this. Too bad its so hard to track down the ones you want most in the mp3 world though.
Sis: meant to say Terms of Endearment. They all blend together in the brain.
Edwin: Howdy! Long time no see!
Yeah, Terms of Endearment was sappy, but I recall liking that one too.
I have this memory of my freshman English teacher at Berkeley ragging on Terms of Endearment. But the odd thing is, ToE came out in ’83, and I took that class in ’79. Funny thing, memory. Perhaps she was criticizing the book?
Still hanging in there. Survived the Olympics circus (but had a great time watching the crowds as they milled around work). I’m on the fourth draft of Bound and have started planning out the sequel. Sorry to see you making comments that indicate you’re not going to be following up on the Brakan story.
I just can’t find the oomph to do the necessary editing. I’ve started and stopped countless times. Add to that the unlikelihood of finding an agent, getting published, etc.
Worst thing about it? I miss my characters.
I thought the 70’s rocked!! http://rockmusiclists.wetpaint.com/page/100+Greatest+Rock+Songs+of+the+70's
Maybe you were too young to remember some of these greats.
I don’t know if it’s fair to pick one song and, from that, conclude that all music in the 70s sucked. If you want to prove that any era sucked, there are tons of songs available.
There was a lot of music that sucked in the 70s. There was a lot of music that sucked in the 60s. There was a lot of music that sucked in the 80s. The 90s. This past decade.
Truth is, most popular music sucks. In 30 years, people are going to look back at Gaga-gargle and proclaim how stupid we all were.
Point taken, both of ya. That list Lucie posted really does have some gems.
