HouseApe 3.0 has had a couple of lasting coughs this winter. We ended up at one point putting him to sleep in a reclining chair. Lying somewhat upright helps a lot.
Sounds like it’s time to bring out the big codeine gun. Do not mix with Jack Daniels. I have a confession: I sometimes double the recommended dose when I am taking OTC cough medicines like Robitussin. It’s twice as effective that way, ha!
This cough laughed at codeine and shrugged off hydrocodone elixir. And besides, the opiates give me insomnia.
Finally had a decent night’s sleep last night. What I did: I used my inhalers from when I was sick last Fall. This didn’t feel like a lung problem (more a throat tickle, really) but the lung inhalers worked just the same.
The clue was the chocolate. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is similar (IIRC) to theophylline, an asthma medication. So if chocolate was helping, perhaps other asthma-type meds would help, too.
And isn’t dark chocolate like a laxative too?
Try the honey.
Not terribly poopogenic.
I’ve been doing the honey. And lemon. And cough drops until my teeth hurt.
