Truly, Madly, Deeply hooked me on Rickman. Also, one of my main beefs with the newest HP movie: not enough Snape. If it weren’t for my son, he’d be the only reason I’d watch those movies.
Back to Truly, Madly, Deeply. This ranks as my favorite romance film. Yes, even more than Say Anything. I gripe sometimes about nongenre fiction being too obsessed with TRUTH and not sufficiently obsessed with entertainment, but TMD managed to do everything. It was funny, interesting, had engaging characters, and it was honest, too. The whole thing revolved around love and loss, without a single reference to that tired old riff, “Men are creeps. Why can’t I find a good man?”
As for my motivations: of course I want a bunch of intelligent gals hanging around here. Who wants to hang out with a bunch of smelly guys? I mean, look at my portrait. One of them might step on me, or something.
Come to think of it, TMD ranks higher than my other favorite Cusack movie, Gross Point Blank. GPB has a smart, funny, flawless (IMO) script, but I cared for the characters in TMD far more than I cared for GPB’s duo.
Sigh… I can’t see these things on my sloooow home computer. But I do luuuurve Alan.
Maureen, don’t feel bad. I think you would have gone ballistic, seeing your Alan defiled so cruelly.
Oh. My. God.
The only fan letter I ever wrote in my life was to that man, after Robin Hood. He wrote me a lovely two line response which, of course, I still have.
And I thought the Snape thang was hilarious.
He’s got that whole Blue Gal “Intelligence is an Aphrodisiac” thang goin’ on. But then again, so does Douglas.
BGal? You mean the picture of douglas with that lovely throat sac fully inflated? It’s hot, no doubt about it.
Douglas, you’re just trying to get more females flocking to your blog. That picture will work.
I liked Rickman in Truly Madly Deeply. He plays long-suffering well.
Rickman is nicely put together, and quite intellectual without being a jackass about it, but it’s his voice always melts me into a puddle of goo.
As with rich and smart, there is no such thing as too sexy. 🙂
Yeah, but using AR as chick bait means Douglas is only gonna get the brainy chicks. Which, come to think of it, is probably his motive anyway.
Sorry to talk about you on your own blog as if you are not in the room, DH. And I love the inflated pouch.

I own TMD (and a paperback of the screenplay), I own Grosse Point Blank, and that reminds me, mebbe put Say Anything on my wish list.
Speaking of Grosse Point Blank, have you seen the blog “Hey Jenny Slater”? A mixed bag, but an inspired name. Check my blogroll.
DH, where’s your email addy? If you don’t have one public, get to me for a gmail invite, kay?
One of your hoards of adoring female fans, (no breeding allowed, I know, I know)
Blue Gal
By the way, memo to Kate r, w/apologies to Peter Gabriel:
Sweet little princess
Let me introduce his frogness
You alone can get him singing
He’s all puffed up, wanna be your king
Oh you can do it
Lady kiss that frog
Again, suspecting his motives….
Thank you so much for the link. You’ve made my day.
(Harry Potter definitely needs more Snape.)
