Here’s Sacheen Littlefeather declining the Oscar for Marlon Brando (for his performance in The Godfather) — embedding disabled.
I wondered whatever happened to Ms. Littlefeather, and the Wikipedia article isn’t disappointing.
I haven’t watched The Academy Awards in ages. During med school, I guess, or perhaps internship . . . the Awards would come around and I’d realize that I had not seen a single one of the movies. In the last 20 years, I’ve only seen six of the Best Picture winners: Silence of the Lambs (and how the hell did that win — oh, look at the competition), Unforgiven, Braveheart, American Beauty, Gladiator, and LOTR Return of the King. I love movies; it’s just that I don’t watch them anymore.
I went to a retirement party today, which made me wonder what I would do in retirement. Write, obviously, but you can’t write 24-7. Cook. Shop. And, maybe, catch up on all the movies I’ve missed.
D.
My question is how the hell did Braveheart win? It was atrocious!
I think Braveheart won on the merits of that one scene, where the crazy guy tells Wallace that he has talked to God, and God “says you’re fooked.” I love that scene. The rest of it, feh. Especially the sadistic torturefest in the end. Gibson is NUTS, have I said that lately?
one word: Watchmen?
still dont see how anyone could watch an awards shoe
Microsoar: didn’t you see this post? Karen’s boycotting Watchmen; I haven’t made up my mind.
rdb: I agree. Boring as hell, usually, with TERRIBLE music.
Nah, missed it. Sorrowful apologies.
You know, I don’t mind. Sure it won’t be the original. But I’ve read the original. Now I have at least some measure of suspense.
I dunno. “I wonder how badly they effed it up” ain’t my idea of nifty suspense.
There is a lot of Watchmen debate around here. We’re thinking of sending a canary into the coal mine. If the robust middle boy can handle the adaptation, the other two will go to a later show.
Good. Then you can let me know if it’s worth watching.
The key to watching the Oscars is the company of a gay man. My host and I watched them and quite enjoyed bagging on the silly set, some of the ridiculous dresses, the creepy welcome to the brother/sisterhood spectacles for the best actor/actress/supporting awards, the weird facial hair, etc. I hadn’t seen anything except for the Dark Knight (and that only because it was on the flight to NYC last time I came over), but the films weren’t really the point…
Reminds me of the time I watched Gone with the Wind with two gay women and one straight woman. THAT was a blast.
