Blogiversary TWO (& a contest)

Yup, it’s Balls and Walnuts’s’s second blogiversary, or close enough: April 9, 2005 was my first real post.

For my second blogiversary, I’ve thawed out some birthday cake. Looks mighty warm, in fact.

(Um. In case you don’t remember my birthday cake, it’s not precisely safe for work; but you’ll have to go below the fold to find out about the contest, now, won’t you?)

How did they fit her in that tiny li’l cake? It’s a mystery.

Here’s an easy contest: In the comments, tell me how you found this blog. Yes, I’ve done this before, but with my ego I can’t get enough of stuff like this.

I’ll collect comments until Friday at midnight, after which I’ll draw three names at random. Prizes to be announced later, like, you know, when I think up some good prizes. Suggestions will be entertained.

Hmm. Maybe now would be a good time to come up with my own line of Cafe Press merchandise. Balls and Walnuts thongs, anyone?

D.

easy contest!! (thank goodness, I know this one, I would be hard put to answer this for most of the blogs I follow) BlueGal sent me!!! (She;s a lil femme for me, but lovely breasts…I’ll take a piece of that cake…);)

You found me and I’m glad you did.

    Happy blogiversary.

I don’t remember. It was too long ago.
For some reason, I think it was through a blog called ‘Food, not Rocket Science’, but I’m not sure.
But once I found it, I favorited it, and now it’s part of my regular blog walk.

    😉

  4. sam says:

Oh wait – it was probably Kate.
Everything seems to go back to Kate R.
    Yes, definitely Kate.
    (thanks Kate!!)

  5. kate r says:

    You’re welcome.

Does this count as a comment? Can I have some cake? Keep the huzzy in the middle, I want a piece with STRAWBERRIES. Yum.

  6. Dean says:

Yes, the entire world revolves around Kate, although it doesn’t know it yet.

Although I didn’t find you through Kate. Because I’m eccentric.

I knew you from Before. From WBBS, and I really don’t have a clue how I happened onto your blog. Really. You probably told me. Or I stalked you or something.

  7. Dean says:

    Oh, almost forgot: nice cans.

  8. jmc says:

It’s all Beth’s fault — I’m pretty sure I found my way here via a link to an SBD Monday post.

  9. tambo says:

I’m pretty sure I saw you post a comment on Holly’s blog, and I followed your URL to see more. Not positive, but pretty sure.

Those are some mighty huge strawberries, btw. Am I the only one who noticed that?

    Summer in Australia, 2007.

The city bakes and shimmers in the heat of the long drought. Cicadas shrill parched short songs while a dry north wind carries dust tinged with the reek of melting road tar. Cars rush frantically between cooler destinations through the relentless blaze.

Hiding from the blasted reality ,I surf the cool waves of the cybersphere.

I find Balls and Walnuts. But I forget how.

    🙂

    from the bitches! hurray.
    happy blogiversary!

  12. kate r says:

oh I remember! Maybe? You found me, I think, because of the dying boy propping his arm for jeeeesus–and jesus knew that the broken body held a pure spirit–the book in the doctor’s office.

How come my kids don’t get to read choice litterature like that in their pediatrician’s office?

I followed a link from somewhere and have been lurking and laughing ever since. Happy Blogiversary.

That picture is a bit funny. Her hair is discreetly placed over one breast and then there is a line of strawberries leading up to the other one, which is fully exposed like a stop light. Plus the hat is a photoshopy mess. I would call her The Strawberry Bimbo.

  15. sxKitten says:

I was riding Dean’s coattails, as usual.

  16. Happy blogiversary! You’re on a friend’s blogroll… How she found you, I have no idea. Thru Blue Gal, perhaps?

  17. Walnut says:

Kate: heck yeah, I remember that discussion! That was AGES ago. And I still remember the one little boy propping up the other little boy’s forearm so that Jesus would understand how sorry he was for getting himself killed! Gruesome story.

Tam, I don’t think I left more than one or two comments on Holly’s site, but I used to hang out at PBW’s place a lot. I think I noticed you there and followed you back. Either that, or the Forward Motion people told me what a cool gal you were.

Corn Dog, didn’t you find me through Miss Snark? That’s my recollection.

Michelle, you and I go WAY back. Wish I could remember how I found you. Through PBW, perhaps?

    Thanks for showing up, everyone!

  18. May says:

    PBW probably.

    Happy blogiversary!

  19. Kris Starr says:

    How did I find you?

Gads…I can’t remember, Doug. (And after Vegas, too… how shameful of me!)

    I’m a-thinkin’ it was via Lyn Cash…but like I said, I’m drawing a blank on this one…

Does it matter, now that we’ve all found each other? 😉

  20. One beautiful day, right at dusk, the cosmos compelled me to go wandering through the wondrous world wide web. As I drifted, sad and lonely, I began to feel a compulsion, a clarion call from something I’d believed I would live out my life and never find. As I grew closer, my eyes couldn’t believe what I beheld – the missing part of my soul, the piece that would make me whole, it had been here, waiting for my lonely path to wend by. I fell to my knees, awed and humbled by the discovery, and proceeded to whisper naughty things in your ear.

Which is my way of saying, I don’t really remember, but I’m glad I did find you 😉

  21. Walnut says:

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww you guys are sweet!

  22. Lyvvie says:

Happy blogaversary!! Belated as it is…

  23. Rella says:

It’s Kris’s fault!!! I blame her. But then again, I blame her for corrupting me – a la Krugy and everything! Glad I found you tho. My mother is quite impressed when I say that I met someone online who is an ENT. Little does she know of the corruption lurking here!

Ahhh! You’re all corrupting me! And this little baby too! AHHHHHHHHH!

    Rella

  24. mm says:

I think you mentioned your blog in an email. Or maybe you mentioned it on another site. However you mentioned it, I’m sure it was subtle

  25. Walnut says:

Since Lyvvie can’t read directions, I’ll do it for you. “I found you on Kate’s blog, and I want to have your babies.” Hey, thanks, Lyvvie!

Rella, that’s my job: corrupting the innocent of the ‘net.

Mo, was it something like, “Get your ass over here?” All I know is, you were one of my first.

  26. Shelbi says:

It was probably through PBW, who was found through Holly Lisle’s site, who was found through my friend Google… T’was a long time ago, though. You were called “Shatter” then.

    Happy Blogiversary, Doug!

  27. Carrie Lofty says:

Oooh, my blogiversary is coming up in June. I love the actual record of time passing. Anyway, I found your blog through, um, either Kate R’s or Beth’s SBDs. Cheers!

  28. Pretty sure you found me, and I wandered over to check our your site. Late July – early August 2005, if I recall. Looking back through backup copies of my template, your Blogger link appeared in my blogroll around that time.

  29. Corn Dog says:

Yeah, I thought I found you at Miss Snark’s but when I said it before you said you hadn’t been there in a long time so I thought maybe my memory was faulty – again. I do think that is where I found you – perhaps.

  30. Edwin says:

I may not say much, but surely I deserve extra points for being there at the beginning.

  31. Pat J says:

Do I get extra points if I invoke the Writers’ BBS?

    Happy blog-i-versary!

  32. Walnut says:

All my pals are showing up, old and new. Cool!

Edwin, you’ve delurked! Good to see you.

Yeah, Pat — you, and Maureen, and Edwin, and Dean, and Gabriele …

    Thanks everyone! Keep ’em coming.

  33. Kid Doc says:

OK, well I guess I’m “different”. I googled “tonsilloliths” and your Medical Advocate Website popped up near the top of the list. So a few weeks ago I was cleaning up my list of favorites & discovered the links for your blogs. Been lurking & laughing since. I have to say that I enjoy reading the comments as much as your posts!

  34. Walnut says:

Yup, I have a great crowd.

It’s a wonder more folks don’t come here from the Advocate site. I think they do, on occasion, then run away screaming.

  35. Suisan says:

I think I found Kate and you both through Smart Bitches. Or I followed Smart Bitches who love Trashy Books commnet from Kate back to her blog and you were commenting there? I think?

Anyway, I remember finding you both at the same time and thinking, “Whoa. Cool folks.”

  36. mm says:

A girl loved to know she was one of the first…

  37. Da Nator says:

Why, I found ye through the Cap’n, o’ course. An’ might I add yer blog is real fine to read once one’s downed a couple casks of ale and the bilge rats have cleaned one out o’ poker chips. ;o)

    Happy blogiversary!

  38. Lyvvie says:

Doug: OK I admit I didn’t read the instructions – as soon as I saw nipple I zipped past the picture to stop my kids asking questions.

I found your blog through Beth (All Hail Beth!) where you commented on a Smart Bitches Day and I’ve been a firm friend of yours ever since – even if you didn’t want me to be.

And I’m having no more babies – nuh-uh. No matter how tempting the prospect. I think we’d have super brainy kids with twisted outlooks on life. Could we do that a child, never mind the whole world??

  39. Blue Gal says:

Okay, I got yer ego fest right here: I was bopping around the blogosphere (and right this second I think I was googling “writing” but not sure. Came to your old site and…

    …liked your picture.

GOD! HOW ON EARTH could I actually ADMIT that to you, Doug?

    You’ll be insufferable now…

Happy Belated Blogiversary. Love on you and the fam.

  40. Walnut says:

Suisan: yup, I think we are, too. (And I think it was Blue Gal who was sure for the longest time that Kate and I were husband and wife!)

Yes, Mo, definitely one of the first 😉

Lyvvie, someone has to take Kurt Vonnegut’s place on the stage.

BG: must have been a disappointment to see the real deal!

  41. jona says:

2nd anniversary? Good grief, I guess that means mine ought to be coming up soon (even if I am slack ;o))

How did I find you…nah, I doubt you need reminding :o)

  42. Blue Gal says:

No disappointment here, honey, in fact, I love ya so much .

  43. Ralph Munn says:

Damn! Hope you’re not EST, or I missed it! 🙁

Found you through Blue Gal, my fave Blog Ho (J/K BG). She wished you The Happs, and her taste is gold to me, so… ta-daaaa! I’s here.

Cool digs too, I’m book-markin’ ya. And from what I’ve read in this brief visit, thanks for enriching my tepid existence! 😉

  44. Walnut says:

Not too late, Ralph! Welcome to B&W.
